It's in the 90's-100's??? Say it Ain't so!!!

August 24 - September 4, 2017

We have had quite a respite here at Mike and Katie's house. Spending time with them, Elle Belle, Bek and many of their friends and our outlaws has been a delight!!! Elle Belle's first birthday turned out to be quite the bash!!! So much fun!!!

One of their community's cake ladies created this cake & cupcakes  for Elle Belle's party theme: "Oh, the Places You'll Go"

Barbara created these darling sugar cookies...YUM!

Some of our favorite Outlaws...Katie's family

Bek trying to keep Cali Bear from getting so excited with everyone!!!

Katie made this darling video of Elle Belle's first year

All of us with the birthday girl

But, who turned up the the heat here??? Wow!!! Only when we go visit the beach areas, Del Mar, La Jolla and Solana and the San Diego seaport does the temperatures drop some. It's really slowed our outside sightseeing down some.

Lunch by the Seaport

It's fun to watch the variety of ships and boats go by...

By Seaport Village

With Bek we went to visit La Jolla Cove again, to watch the sea lions and people. It's a toss up which is more interesting??? It was a cloudy day so the temperature was quite comfortable but it made our photos less striking.

Lots of penguins, seagulls and anhinga make this area home
Didn't see any seals this day

These squirrels have holes in the ground

People investigating the sea life here

La Jolla

Loved Mike's sea gull photo

These brown penguin are so large!!!

It was funny to watch their behavior

Despite signs, sightseers invaded their space

Loved these trees

On one of the hotter days we enjoyed an afternoon swim and pool volleyball game at Katie's dad Charlie and Jean's home along with her brother, sister in law and their darling children, Emily and Luke. It's shocking how fast it cools down here once the sun starts dropping... Those two know how to entertain...delicious drink and repast!!!

With Katie's mom and Bill, we had a fantastic lunch at the Poseidon Restaurant on Del Mar Beach. Since Barbara and Bill like to travel as well; we had time to catch up with all our travels. As well as, talking about their March visit to us in FL for spring training...Can't wait!

One of these days we might go there

There were these horses everywhere

Love Del Mar Beach and the Park there

After helping Katie as best we could, we took off for President Nixon's Library, Museum and Boyhood home in Yorba Linda, CA. It didn't disappoint. Quite spacious and well designed including replicas of his Oval Office, Cabinet room and the East Room where they were preparing for a wedding that day. Interestingly enough, the Watergate years exhibit was assembled by the Smithsonian. We have really enjoyed learning more about the presidents and have two more Presidential museum stops on our way home..

Even the parking lot was decorated

The building was so large we had to keep driving to find the entrance.

The first thing you face as you walk in...beautifully done

Talking about difficult times...the late 60's

Part of the Berlin Wall that came down after his term but thanks to Nixon's early diplomatic missions

Mike sitting in his chair in the replica of the oval office

Still appropriate in this day and age...

Me being my usual curious self, the desk belonged to VP Wilson first.
I'm all about parades...

The meditation pool looking towards his birthplace

 The East Room Replica

The roses behind his birthplace...there were orange trees and roses everywhere...

 A charming, but modest birthplace

Saturday turned out hot again for our professional photos with Elle Belle, our kids and all the grandparents at a beautiful San Diego park. We had a fun time creating the shots and watching Elle Belle. Our kids returned home with their little star while the grandparents went to party. We had a wonderful time at Republic Draft. Barbara and I discovered one of their beers that we both enjoyed 7.5% alcoholic Root Beer! YUM!!!

It's always hard to leave our kids & Elle Belle behind but we are looking forward to seeing them in FL for a few days in October.

Tomorrow we are back on the road again...praying that Hurricane Irma doesn't hit land! Thankfully, friends, Val, Tom, Peg and Mike have added more lines to Moondance just in case...
